Oprah on Being Gay: “Not Even a Little Bit”

In her show on December 6, Oprah Winfrey gave the world what it needed to know to shut up about rumors linking her romantically to Gayle King. Winfrey revealed she “is not gay, not even a little bit.”

Because of her relationship with Gayle King, both professionally, and on a personal level, fans and other folks have begun speculations that she and King may have an intimate relationship  – perhaps a bond more romantic than just being best friends and partners at work. But Oprah cleared this out by saying that she is not even kind of a lesbian. She denied these speculations fully during an interview with Barbara Walters from ABC.

Gayle King is Opray’s editor-at-large, as well as her best friend off cam. She talked fondly about her affections for King, saying that the latter was like the sister anyone would wish for, and the mother that she never had. During the said interview, Oprah became emotional and her eyes moistened when she told the public that King was a friend that anyone deserved, and that there was no other better person she knew.

To further defend this, Winfrey continued to express her annoyance at the persistent gossip. She explained that if these rumors were true, then she was not one to hide it. Apparently, there would be no reason to do so, and she stood firm by saying that denying it untruthfully was not the way she run her life.
